Euro 2008 'should boost Austrian property market' Print E-mail
Football could provide an unlikely boost for those with investment property in Austria, is has been claimed

According to Paul Collins, property editor of BuyAssociation, the upcoming Euro 2008 tournament should only serve to improve the nation's housing market if the past is anything to go by.

He said: "It is hard to prophesise when you have got a market that is rising like Austria's.

"It could take more than one specific event for it to rise any further but we did see in Germany, in 2006 [after the World Cup], that there was an increase in the interest in property."

He added that people who attend football games overseas tend to be relatively wealthy and this means they could also be interested in property investment and that the tournament will promote the country as a tourist destination in general.

According to Channel 4 programme A Place in the Sun, the average price of a property in Austria is just over £130,000.
